I've been asked when the writing of my novel, "When the Rabbit Jumps," began. Although ideas for the book began long before, is was in 1984 when a dull pencil began stroking words on yellowed sheets of foolscap (neither word processers nor laptops were available).
At the time, I was living in a rented tent on the island of St Thomas in the Caribbean. If you notice in the photo, my 'luxurious' home rested on a wooden platform. I soon discovered the numerous holes that dotted the ground were the homes of nocturnal hunters. Hairy tarantula spiders would come out at night in search of smaller prey. Following them barefoot with a flashlight was an exciting activity. (Oh to be young and stupid again) The white bunny in the other photo was friendly, but I quickly discovered it was covered with flees when it snuck into my tent one rainy night. #wanderer #adventuretime
